RootsTech 2024 kicks off in two weeks from today. I’m drowning in preparations, so I thought I would preview some of the things I’m involved in and some of the things I’m looking forward to. First, I will be teaching three classes.

A Look into the Business of Genealogy–A Panel Discussion

This will feature me, Diana Elder, Angela McGhie, and Karen Stanbary all talking about different aspects of the world of professional genealogy. We’ll cover educational preparation, credentialing, different types of client work, writing, teaching and more. It should be a great hour! Thursday, 29 February at 3pm (in Ballroom G)

Beginning Scandinavian Research

This is a revamp of a classic for me. I’ve been teaching these ideas for about twenty years. I’ve done a massive overhaul of how I’m presenting my information, hopefully adding a lot of clarity. We’ll talk about methodology, record types, naming patterns, reading old handwriting, and how to find access to records. Friday, 1 March at 9:30 in room 255A

An Introduction to Scandinavian Church Records

And for my final appearance, I’ll be giving a detailed look at the most common records used in Scandinavian research–the church records. I will show examples of each of the main events recorded, what we learn from each, how to best use the information and where to find the records. This class will also be part of the RootsTech Live Stream on Saturday, 2 March at 8am in Ballroom E.

Another of my responsibilities at RootsTech is overseeing the ICAPGen booth in the exhibit hall. We have so many people who are volunteering time to answer questions about crendentialing and the benefits of taking on a big project like credentialing.

The Expo Hall is always a great spot to learn what’s new and exciting in genealogy. That’s my favorite place to meet up with people and network. If you plan to be at RootsTech, come find me!
