Rootstech is quickly approaching this year. It will be held on March 2-4, and this year it will be a hybrid conference. This means that the traditional conference events will happen in Salt Lake City, and there will also be an online conference. If you haven’t registered for the in-person events, and if you would like to attend, the link is here.
It’s pretty exciting to see the in-person conference coming back. I love Rootstech. It’s been a great place to hang out with my genealogy friends and to meet new genealogy friends. I’ve been lucky enough to be a featured speaker for several years, and I love getting to teach people all about my favorite genealogy topics. And I LOVE to meet new genealogists. It’s just a fun and energetic environment. If you have the chance to be there, I really suggest attending.
That being said, I won’t be attending this year. I was totally planning on it, but then there was a calendar change with a big event at West Point. During the exact same days as Rootstech, I will be tromping around the West Point campus with my two oldest kids, taking in everything that this amazing campus has to offer. While I will miss my favorite parts of Rootstech, this parent weekend at West Point will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our family. I can’t wait!
Just because I won’t physically be attending Rootstech, I’m not totally sitting out. This year I’ve created three new videos for part of the on-demand (online) portion of the Rootstech conference. These new videos cover a lot of topics I’ve presented previously, but I’ve condensed full lectures into just small 15- minute videos. These three videos will provide a really quick look at the topics, rather than the full one-hour experience. If you need a review of one of any of these topics, or if you’re looking for an overview before you deep-dive, check these out. You can find the on-demand video link here.
- Beginning Scandinavian Research (17 minutes)
- Navigating Scandinavian Patronymics (12 minutes)
- An Introduction to Scandinavian Church Records (19 minutes)
All of the new video materials for the virtual Rootstech experience go live at 9am Mountain time on March 2. They will be available for you on demand any time after that.

I will miss you! I’m glad you will still be sharing your expertise with on-demand videos though. 🙂
